Topics in Port and Maritime Consultancy
Fisher Associates are a port and maritime consultancy. Many of the assignments that we complete are based around a particular "deliverable" such as:
- Masterplan / Port development plan: a strategy for pyhsical development based on assessment of markets and opportunities (particularly for ports).
- Feasibility study: an appraisal of a specific project to identify the financial and / or economic returns and risks attached to a project.
- Business plan: a document designed to provide signposts for development and to back funding for a project or business.
- Marketing plan: a plan for how a business or project is to be marketed and sold in the maketplace.
In addition to these, there are two other topics which often form the core of Fisher Associates assignments:
- Privatisation: this term is often applied to several means of institutional change such as concessioning (in all its forms), private sector participation, and corporatisation.
- Cluster mapping and strategy: cluster theory increasingly underpins economic intervention strategy in OECD countries. It works very well with maritime, and it is a concept that Fisher Associates predict will be rolled out to many maritime centres around the world.
Finally, Education and Skills is another topic that is increasingly the focus of policy makers who realise that their competitiveness in the maritime sector hinges substantially on the people who work in it.
