Fisher Associates is a network practice which puts together the right team for the job. There is a core of Associates who work with us regularly, and there are others who have done just one or two assignments with us. Brief biographies on key poeple are detailed below. Full cvs can be downloaded.

Chris Fisher (Principal): Chris has some 25 years experience in the maritime industries and is an acknowledged specialist in maritime consultancy. He has managed all of Fisher Associates work, and is responsible for quality control. He usually participates as a core team member.

  • He regularly manages large projects, with responsibility for delivering according to TOR and budget.
  • He has undertaken varied assignments that provide background in all aspects of the multi-faceted maritime community. Examples include studies for institutional and management development, market appraisals, investment planning, valuations, cost-benefit analysis etc. This includes regular travel to key maritime centres such as London, Dubai and Singapore.
  • In addition to 13 years as Principal of Fisher Associates, and three years in business development for an international maritime company, he was employed for several years as an Associate with Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services. Working within the Strategy & Economics group, this provided grounding for his consulting career.
  • His experience in the maritime industries originates at sea with P&O, and includes shore-based employment with Port of Great Yarmouth and Shipping Corp of New Zealand.
  • He holds an MSc in International Shipping (with distinction), and a BSC in Nautical Studies (2.1).

Louise Crosby (Transport Economist): Louise is a Senior Associate with Fisher Associates, and an experienced Economist. She has undertaken several assignments in the ports, shipping and air transport sectors. Her work with Fisher Associates includes studies in the UK and overseas. She has undertaken market analyses in projects ranging from the cruise sector and maritime leisure to freight transport. Her experience is wide ranging with greatest depth in maritime and air transport. She has also worked on several road and rail studies in various countries. She worked previously for Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services in the Strategy and Economics Group of the Transport Division, and prior to this as a development economist.

She is qualified with a BA in Economics (1st Class), and an MA also in Economics (dissertation not completed). She is based near London. Download cv.

ET Laing (Transport Economist): Ted has thirty-nine years experience as a Transport Economist. He specialises in ports and shipping, but is also familiar with other modes of transport via intermodal projects.

He is one of the most experienced consultants in the maritime world, and has carried out projects for private firms, government departments, international agencies (including World Bank, European Commission, Asian Development Bank, EBRD, Overseas Development Administration, US AID and Danida), local government organisations and port trusts.

Particular areas of specialisation include cargo forecasts, market evaluation, economic and financial analysis, privatisation, regulatory policy, pricing and shipping operations. He has worked in over 60 countries, including extensively in the UK. He is based in London. Download cv.

Alasdair Clarke (Port Management, Skills & Training): Alasdair has over 20 years experience in the maritime industries. He was formerly a senior manager for one the UK's largest maritime companies (ABP). In this role he was responsible for various activities including the recruitment and development of the company's staff and management. His organisational activities included the sponsoring of research projects and placements, and fostering partnerships with Universities. He has worked with Fisher Associates as an Associate for the last 8 years on a variety of assignments, applying his detailed industry knowledge, and interview skills and techniques, to various research tasks.

Alasdair has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Systems Analysis and Design at City University, which allowed him to extend his experience into the fields of Knowledge Management amongst other things. He is based in London. Download cv 

Trevor Bailey (Marine Operations & Risk Assessment): Trevor is a Master Mariner with command experience who has been involved in the marine industry for 35 years. His varied employment before being promoted to command has given him experience of a wide variety of shipping types and services.  He was one of the first masters of high-speed car-carrying catamarans in the UK, as well as the training master at the time of the introduction on Stena Line's HSS 1500  -  at the time, the world's largest high-speed ferry, the world's most powerful merchant ship, and the world's largest aluminium structure.

Since leaving Stena Line in 1998, he has undertaken a number of marine operations and safety based assignments, both in the UK and world-wide, with extensive experience in the cruise and ferry sectors as well as the ports industry. He has experience of quality management and risk management systems, and registration for compliance with ISO 9001:2000.

Trevor has provided expert witness support to a number of maritime solicitors, and sat as one of the Nautical Assessors on the Formal Inquiry into the collision between m.v. Bowbelle and m.v. Marchioness. He is based in North Wales. Download cv 

Richard Holland (Port Planning & Technical): Richard has 44 years experience, principally in port and harbour planning, operations and marine engineering, and has worked with consulting engineers, and civil engineering and dredging contractors.  He has broad experience, ranging from port planning, operation and economic studies through to detail design, project implementation and design audits of UK and international projects. He has been Project Director for several International Lending Agencies' projects including the EBRD, World Bank and the ADB.

He was formerly Managing Director of Posford Duvivier (which became Posford Haskoning), and in a long career at Posfords he was exposed to a multitude of planning, operational and marine engineering issues in a wide variety of ports and sectors. Between July 1999 and June 2005 he was a Board Member of the Port of Tyne Authority, a UK Trust Port.

Since then he has worked with Fisher Associates on several assignments, and has carried out various port planning studies for clients such as the EBRD, and the Port of London Authority. He has reviewed several contractors' claims on marine projects as well as continuing with planning and design of marine projects.

During his career he has worked in the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Holland, Australia, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, Indonesia, Singapore, Ghana, Turks & Caicos Islands, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Russia. He is based near Peterborough. Download cv
